Copper/Aluminium Bimetal a.k.a Copper Clad Aluminium is used for various purposes and has numerous applications such as in Thermometers, Circuit Breakers, Isolators, Fire Alarms, Electrical Devices, etc. It is used to convert a temperature change into mechanical displacement. The different expansions force it to bend one way if heated and in the opposite direction if cooled below its initial temperature.

Why Copper/Aluminium Bimetal?
It is known that when the aluminium terminals are directly connected to copper terminals to carry current at a high voltage, a bimetallic galvanic corrosion occurs, resulting in a high resistance at the joint. The heated joints are oxidized and lose contact resulting in sparks, voltage dropout, power losses and failure and damage to machinery. When copper/aluminium bimetal is placed as a transition plate between the terminals at the joint (with Copper facing Copper and Aluminium facing Aluminium), bimetallic galvanic corrosion is averted due to absence. Thus, copper/aluminium bimetal is used at dissimilar metal joints of aluminium and copper to make similar metals contact.
